How to Design a Nautical Themed Room

Interior design isn’t tough, but it does require quite a bit of planning and effort to succeed. You need to figure out which colors you’re going to use, what sort of furniture you need, how you’ll decorate, and what you can do to tie it all together.

Anything less will disrupt a space, making it less enjoyable and hospitable, especially if you’re trying to create a nautical theme.

Though this all sounds like a lot of work — and it is — it’s not an impossible amount. You can do it. You just need to take it one step at a time. Here are a few tips that can help.

The Color Scheme.

First and foremost, you need to figure out what colors you’re going to pain. Interior designers usually use navy, khaki, and white as their dominant colors, and red, black, and yellow as their secondary colors when creating a nautical theme. Be sure to avoid any neon colors, too, as they don’t go with nautical decor in the least bit.

The Furniture.

You don’t really need to worry about getting a new sofa or recliner, but you might need a new coffee table, end table, and lamp to really make a great nautical themed room. Try to go with wood furniture, which suits the rustic feel of a seaside place. For lighting, try using lanterns or other types of lamps a ship might use.

The Nautical Decorations.

Last but most importantly, you need to get nautical home decorations to really the theme home. Nautical decor is, realistically, the linchpin of the entire design. Incorporating nautical decor like replica diving helmets, armillary globes, nautical barometers, telescopes, nautical wheels, wall mounted bells, rope, and more into the theme will clue visitors into the fact that it’s intended to replicate the look and feel of a rustic place by the sea. As much as the colors and the furniture count, nautical decor matters the most.

If you want a nautical themed room, you’ll need the right colors, furniture, and nautical decor. Plan it all out, and you’ll do just fine.
